Dear Students and Parents,
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you back for the 2010/2011 school year. I am confident this will be an enriching, exciting and engaging year filled with endless possibilities for you and your child. Here at the Office of Child Development, we pride ourselves on providing quality educational programs designed to promote a love for learning that will carry children throughout their educational experience. From our preschool program, which is the foundation for a child’s beginning into the world of academia, to our after school programs, that act as a continuum for learning, the Office of Child Development looks forward to serving as a stepping stone for your child’s continued success. As a result, parents can look forward to the flourishing transformations of their child through our experiential, interactive and encouraging teaching style.
The Office of Child Development is also committed to ensuring a safe, nurturing and stimulating learning environment for our student population. Teachers will instruct students in accordance with the California Department of Education, Child Development Division State Frameworks and Standards. When leaving our programs, students will be prepared for the rigors of future instruction. As a school community, we will provide a broad sequential curriculum with an emphasis on problem solving, critical thinking and creativity to lay the foundation for self-directed accomplishments.
We invite and encourage parents to become involved through our Parent Advisory Council (PAC). This is a volunteer organization run by parents whose goal is to support the students and the program. Meeting the needs of our students can be better accomplished by active participation from parents. The Office of Child Development extends an open invite for all parents to become involved through (PAC). More information can be found under the parent section of the website. Attendance at Back to School Night’s and Parent Conferences is also a great springboard for your child’s success.
In closing I would like to leave you with this fitting poem:
WHOSE CHILD IS THIS?
Author Unknown
"Whose child is this?" I asked one day
Seeing a little one out at play.
"Mine", said the parent with a tender smile
"Mine to keep a little while.
To bathe his hands and comb his hair
To tell him what he is to wear
To prepare him that he may always be good
And each day do the things he should."
"Whose child is this?" I asked again
As the door opened and someone came in.
"Mine", said the teacher with the same tender smile
"Mine, to keep just for a little while
To teach him how to be gentle and kind
To train and direct his dear little mind
To help him live by the golden rule
And get the best he can from school."
"Whose child is this?" I ask once more
Just as the little one entered the door
"Ours" said the parent and the teacher as they smiled
And each took the hand of the little child
"Ours to love and train together
Ours this awesome task we endeavor."
